Unified Sports: 2016/17 Sport Selection and Guidelines
Following a successful pilot year of Unified Sports in Alberta, we’re expanding the program to include more sports and events in the 2016/17 school year. The Unified Sports selected for the upcoming year are Bocce, Basketball, and Track; each sport with its own culminating event at the end of the season.
Unified Bocce is a new sport for this school year and it will be played in the fall with a championship tournament at the end of the season of play. The winning team will have the option to travel to Niagara, Ontario and compete against other Unified Bocce teams in the Special Olympics Ontario High School Championships at the beginning of June. Food and accommodation for the team and two coaches will be covered, but the school will be expected to fundraise for travel expenses.
The general guidelines for the upcoming year of Unified Sports are attached and sport-specific rules and event/tournament info will be posted prior to each sport season.
