Double gold for Langley junior pentathletes

Walnut Grove’s Holly Harrison, Credo Christian’s Ian Vandergugten win respective titles at B.C. high school track and field multi-sport championship

Langley boasts both the junior boys and girls pentathlon provincial champions.

Walnut Grove’s Holly Harrison won the junior girls pentathlon title while Credo Christian’s Ian Vandergugten came through with the junior boys title.

The athletes were competing on May 26 and 27 at South Surrey Athletic Park in the B.C. high school track and field multi-sport championships. The rest of the provincial championships run June 1 to 3 at McLeod Athletic Park.

Harrison scored 3,020 points over the five event, beating Handsworth’s Anna Parsakish for the gold medal by 156 points.

“To place, really,” he said about his pre-competition goals.

He followed that up with a third place in the shot put (12.47m), fith in the high jump (1.62m) and sixth in the 1000m (3:06.97).
