CIAAA Statement Regarding COVID-19
March 13, 2020

CIAAA Stakeholders,

With our upcoming National Conference scheduled for April 16-18 in Vancouver, we have been monitoring the public health situation related to COVID-19.

The CIAAA Board of Directors has made the decision to cancel our 2020 National Athletic Directors Conference.

This comes with immense disappointment as our National Conference is a source of great organizational pride and excitement: a true bright spot in our annual calendar, both as an organization and for the Athletic Administrators who attend.

However, the matter of public health is a serious one, and the decision is made in the best interest of our attendees and the overall Canada-wide efforts to reduce the spread of this virus.

At the time of writing, strong recommendations are in place from several provincial health authorities to cancel large public gatherings, including conferences. A growing number of school boards are not permitting inter-provincial travel or non-essential gatherings of larger groups. We follow the spirit of these recommendations in an effort to help mitigate close social contact.

For those who have already registered for the conference as attendees or vendors, we will be in direct contact on Monday, March 16 to discuss the next steps.

In dealing with this decision and the unfortunate reality of today, we also look ahead to the next opportunities to work with Canadian Athletic Administrators, including a return of our National Conference in 2021.

If you have any questions in this or any other regard, please do not hesitate to contact us at info@ciaaa.ca or 888-618-4530.

Please be safe and healthy.

Sincerely,

Scott Bezubiak & Drew Hanson
President & Executive Director, CIAAA
