The Yukon Department of Education invites applications for the following position:

Position:   Executive Director, Yukon Schools Athletic Association           FTE: 1.0 Temporary

School: Department of Education, Whitehorse

Start Date: 2016 08 24                 End Date: 2017 06 20

The Yukon Schools Athletic Association (YSAA) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the provision of sound educational experiences through sport. YSAA promotes the benefits of participation in school sports by providing competitive and non-competitive athletic opportunities to Yukon students at the elementary and secondary school levels. The YSAA office is located in the Department of Education building at 1000 Lewes Blvd, Whitehorse.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

– Bachelor of Education or equivalent;

– Master’s degree in Physical Education, Education, Sport Management or equivalent; – Experience in elementary and secondary sport roles such as coach, athletic director, and tournament coordinator;

– Experience teaching physical education in a K-12 environment; – Experience in financial management and budgeting;

– Experience with event planning and management on a medium to large scale; – Fully fluent in English and French is an asset ;

– Experience working with sport governing bodies and other Canadian Schools’ Athletic Associations is an asset.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

– Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to maintain and build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, school council, Department of Education, external partners and the community;

– Strong consensus-building skills based on effective listening, ability to accommodate and mediate diverse views and make informed forward-looking decisions;

– Proven ability to be an instructional leader;

– Willingness to celebrate all cultures in the school;

– Well-developed decision making and creative problem solving ability;

– Demonstrated innovation towards increased student/athlete involvement;

– Knowledge of and a commitment to learn about the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations including First Nation educational programming.

JOB REQUIREMENT:

– Willingness to travel throughout the Yukon

 

NOTE: To teach in Yukon, you must be certified in another Canadian province/territory first. Successful applicants will be required to undergo a security/vulnerable sector check. Relocation may be available.

Pursuant to section 109(2) of the Education Labour Relations Act, the Deputy Minister has deemed this position as temporary due to exceptional circumstances. If the successful candidate has two or more years of continuous service from temporary appointments, they may not be deemed permanent by having accepted this temporary position.
