Although it may not feel like it outside, golf season is just around the corner, which means that physical education classes can start to think of spring and summer sports. Us here at Golf Canada wanted to send along some information on our Golf in Schools program, with the hopes that schools across the country may be interested in learning more about how to bring golf to their classrooms.
Developed by Physical and Health Education Canada (PHE Canada) with Golf Canada and the PGA of Canada, Golf in Schools was written for teachers by teachers, regardless of their background in golf. It meets the learning outcomes of secondary school curriculums across Canada. The program was developed for teachers to provide students the opportunity to develop aspects of physical literacy related to the sport of golf, and increase student knowledge and appreciation for the sport. The program consists of a “best in class” learning resource as well as age appropriate golf specific equipment.
Program packages start at $25 – whether a school is simply looking for a curriculum piece to get them started, or a golf equipment package to supplement equipment they may already have, there are options around the Golf in Schools secondary school program that I would be happy to discuss with any of your interested schools.
We have over 200 secondary schools registered with the Golf in Schools program; it would be great to grow that number this school year and continue to introduce more new young Canadians to the game. Please feel free to visit www.nationalgolfinschools.com to see photos and sample lesson plans from the program. All program registration can also be completed online.
