Cancellation: MHSAA Hockey & Basketball Provincial Championships

In light of ongoing concern resulting from the coronavirus (COVID-19), and in support of suggested recommendations from Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living and Manitoba Education and Training, effectively immediately the MHSAA is cancelling all Hockey and Basketball Provincial Championships. In addition, all Badminton and other school sport activities will be on hiatus until further notice.

The MHSAA is committed to protecting the health and safety of our student-athletes, staff, coaches, member-schools and the health of all of our fellow Manitobans.

OFSAA Update: COVID-19

POSTED: Friday, March 13, 2020  1:00 PMGiven the Government of Ontario’s decision Thursday to close all publicly-funded schools for two weeks following the upcoming March Break, and given the widespread health measures imposed due to COVID-19, OFSAA is cancelling the boys’ and girls’ hockey and curling championships. The championships were scheduled for the first week after March Break. 

We want to state that the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, volunteers and all of their families is our first priority. We are grateful for the hard work, long hours and dedication of all coaches, student-athletes, convenors and volunteer host organizing committees. OFSAA does not take today’s decision lightly. We are fully aware of the commitment and planning of our host organizing committees and the drive and determination of the athletes and coaches.

COVID-19 : LE RSEQ ANNULE SES ACTIVITÉS PRÉVUES AU CALENDRIER JUSQU’AU 30 JUIN

Montréal, le 27 mars 2020- Le dimanche 22 mars à 13 h 00 avait lieu le point de presse du premier ministre du Québec, M. François Legault, du ministre de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur, M. Jean-François Roberge, et du directeur national de santé publique, M. Horacio Arruda, annonçant la fermeture de toutes les écoles et de tous les établissements d’enseignement collégiaux et universitaires jusqu’au 1^er mai.

Depuis que le gouvernement du Québec a déclaré l’état d’urgence sanitaire combiné à l’annonce de la fermeture de tous les établissements d’enseignement au Québec jusqu’au 1^er mai, le RSEQ a l’obligation et le devoir d’annuler immédiatement toutes les activités de ligues ainsi que tous les championnats provinciaux et régionaux jusqu’au 30 juin 2020 pour les secteurs scolaire, collégial et universitaire.

Le conseil d’administration du RSEQ se désole devant cette situation inquiétante, mais notre priorité est la santé de tous les étudiants-athlètes, entraîneurs, bénévoles, parents et autres intervenants en vue d’éviter la propagation du COVID-19.

Advenant la réouverture de toutes les écoles et de tous les établissements d’enseignement collégiaux et universitaires, le RSEQ mobilisera l’ensemble de son réseau afin de mettre à contribution son expertise. Par sa présence à la grandeur du Québec, le RSEQ est reconnu comme leader du sport et de l’activité physique en milieu étudiant. Avec sa capacité de se déployer rapidement au niveau national, le RSEQ est en mesure d’offrir des activités ponctuelles pour que tous les jeunes du Québec retrouvent le plaisir de bouger.

Nous demeurons en lien avec les autorités gouvernementales et nous nous assurerons de vous tenir informés de tout changement significatif.

PEISAA – Winter Championships have just finished and there aren’t any championships until April. Decision will be made on those events occurring at that time.
