Birchwood Intermediate Ethan MacDonald had an outstanding performance in powerlifting this season!

Ethan demonstrated exceptional dedication, discipline, and determination throughout the year, achieving remarkable success at both the Powerlifting Qualifier and the Provincial PEISAA Powerlifting Championships. Competing against some of the strongest athletes in the province, he captured first place in his weight class and was crowned the Overall Champion—an incredible accomplishment that reflects countless hours of hard work and commitment.

One of the highlights of the competition was an impressive deadlift performance that earned him an Honourable Mention for Pound-for-Pound Deadlift (412lbs), showcasing both his strength and technical excellence on the platform.

Beyond his athletic achievements, he is a respectful, hardworking student who consistently displays a positive attitude in the classroom and around the school community.

June Senior Female Athlete of the month

Grace Christian School – Lily Paquet

Lily is a multisport athlete who has competed this year in cross country, volleyball, basketball, and badminton. Her athletics prowess this year hasn’t stopped with the nicer weather. When the school didn’t have enough women for a senior flag football team, Lily (along with two other senior women) joined the men’s team; she made an impact right away, playing both offense and defense, and earning top defensive player of the team this year. Her greatest accomplishment this spring was individually in track.

Competing at the regionals in shot put, discus, and javelin, she qualified for provincials in all three events. At provincials, she again excelled, earning second place in the juvenile division in shot put and provincial championships in both discus and javelin, even out-distancing the senior women’s provincial champion in discus. On her own, Lily earned GCS a fourth overall finish in the Juvenile Women’s team scoring, an incredible individual feat.

June Senior Male Athlete of the Month Nathan Clinton Morell Regional

Nathan truly embodies the student athlete ideal: dedicated, talented, and steady in both athletics and academics.

While Nathan competes in nearly every school sport — cross country, soccer, basketball, flag football, and track and field — and brings additional experience from competing with the Charlottetown Knights. It’s his running ability that is exceptional. He has been PEISSA Cross Country 1st place finish four years in a row and has been central to Morell High’s track success the last 4 seasons, securing the banner all 4 years.

This year he created a legacy that he will leave behind for years to come. Nathan set four provincial records in the 2026 PEISSA Provincials: the 4×400 relay, 4×100 relay, 400m, and 800m — showing both speed and endurance under pressure.

Despite a heavy athletic load and travel, he maintains outstanding grades, demonstrating excellent time management and discipline. He also leads by example: training professionally, mentoring younger athletes, and showing strong sportsmanship. Coaches and teammates value his calm focus and relentless work ethic.
