Making School Sport Impactful
INSTITUTE FOR THE STUDY OF YOUTH SPORTS – MAKING HIGH SCHOOL SPORT IMPACTFUL IN CANADA
Michigan State’s Institute for the Study of Youth Sports recently invited Dr. Martin Camire to share his research findings on using school sport as the platform for teaching life skills. Many Saskatchewan high school coaches have contributed to Dr. Camire’s research. Outcomes of the research have included data supporting the important role of teacher-coach involvement in school sport and the need for supports to enhance the experience of teacher-coaches. In addition, an on-line coach education course titled “Coaching for Life Skills” has been developed and is currently available at schoolcoach.ca at no cost. It will soon become one of the many school sport coach education courses available through the CAC Locker.
Dr. Camire’s research has led to an infographic listing 7 considerations for coaches to make high school sports impactful.
