Intermediate Female Athlete of the Month

Emily Gosbee from East Wiltshire for her exceptional achievement at the recent PEISAA triathlon. Through hard work, dedication, and outstanding athletic performance, she earned first place in her age group with an impressive finishing time of 22:25.

What makes this accomplishment particularly noteworthy is that her time was the fastest recorded among all participants, both boys and girls. Competing against a strong field of athletes, she demonstrated remarkable endurance, determination, and competitive spirit throughout the event.

Beyond her athletic success, Emily consistently represents our school with pride and sportsmanship. Her commitment to excellence and willingness to challenge herself serve as an inspiration to her peers and reflect the qualities we value in our student-athletes.

Intermediate Male Athlete of the Month for May

Caleb Lombardo (gr9) – Ecole La Belle Cloche

Caleb is a student who is always willing to help around the school in any manner you may need. Recently, at our school’s awards ceremony, Caleb won awards for “Young citizen of the Year”, “Musical Spirit”, “Most Improved Player of the Year” (for our first ever school basketball team), and a certificate for academic achievement for an average of 85% or higher. Additionally, he received 2 awards voted by the students, which demonstrates he is recognized and present within the school community. Most recently Caleb participated in the zone 4 Track and Field meet. At the meet, he competed in the 100m dash and long jump. Caleb ended the day with 2nd place in the 100m and 3rd in long jump. He qualified for provincials in both his events.

Caleb is a fantastic student who always has a smile on his face and a pleasant demeanor. He is kind, inclusive, and respectful to everyone.

Senior Female Athlete of the Month

Kayce Midgley is a multi-sport athlete with Ecole Francois Butoe. Specifically in rugby, she has risen to the top exceptionally fast. Because she is such a terrific athlete and has set such high standards for herself, she is like a sponge for any information that is fed to her. She proved right away that she would be our on-field leader and plays a crucial position of scrum half, where she makes the decisions for the group. She is also the go-to for all of the “extras” in the game: she does the throw-ins in the lineouts, she kicks for touch, does drop kicks and conversion kicks, and she runs penalties. She has scored 70% of all the points that the team scored this season. We have a group of girls who never touched a rugby ball before April 13, and we are consistently winning games in the AA league; Kayce is the major reason for this success.

Senior Male Athlete of the Month

Marc Chapman (gr 12) – Ecole La Belle Cloche

Marc is a student who spends a lot of time working to keep his grades in good standing, while spending a lot of time working on his training. Marc participated in powerlifting a few months ago and won second in his event. Since the competition, he has not ceased his training. Additionally, he has participated in various sports this year, both with ÉLBC and Souris Regional.

At our recent awards ceremony, Marc won awards for “Most Valuable Athlete—Powerlifting—Senior”, “Most Valuable Athlete—Track and Field—Senior Male”, and “Athlete of the Year—Senior Male”.

Last month, he competed in the East Track and Field meet, where he competed in shot put, discus, and javelin. Marc finished 2nd in discus and 1st in shot put and javelin. This weekend at the Provincial Track and Field meet, Marc has been training hard in javelin with the goal of going for a new provincial record. Additionally, he plans to make an attempt to break the provincial record in senior javelin.

Sandy Wu stands out for her always positive attitude, constant smile and excellent sportsmanship. Despite a very busy schedule, she always communicates very well and makes the effort to attend practices.
