CAPTAINS LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP
Wednesday, October 19, 2022
Bell MTS Iceplex (3969 Portage Ave, Winnipeg)
Registration Opens: 8:00 am
Workshop: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm
The Captains Leadership Workshop is an MHSAA program that brings together team captains and leaders from schools across Manitoba for a one-day workshop. The workshop talks about their responsibilities as leaders and being role models to their teammates, to the other students at their schools, to their families and their community.
We are bringing in Christy Steeves, a very accomplished motivational speaker and leader. Christy has a great speaking style and is able to relate to and interact with the student leaders.
Her presentation will review the responsibilities of being a leader, and will challenge the students to think about the effects of what they do, and how it will impact others, being role models to others in school and community, as well as education about making proper lifestyle choices. Christy will challenge them to “do the right thing” and remind them that they are leaders and that teammates and others watch their actions. Christy will “draw” the student leaders out of their comfort zone, and challenge them to take on those special leadership roles and “do the right thing at the right time”.
We feel that the team captains/leaders will return to their schools as role models and promote and display positive lifestyles, and this in turn can spread to others in the school and their community.
“I just wanted to take a moment to thank MHSAA for hosting the Captains Workshop today. All the students we brought talked about it all the way home. I do personally believe that for MHSAA taking this direction. That this organization is doing something to really make a change. It’s not all about coaching a kid but rather contributing to who they are and what they will contribute to society. Personally, I would love to see these presentations continue in the future. Well done.”
The one-day workshop is supported by the Sport Medicine & Sport Science Council of Manitoba and Boston Pizza.
Cost is $25.00 per student with lunch and a t-shirt included.
Registration is limited to 125 student leaders and schools will be limited to six students per school.
Applications should be forwarded to MHSAA as soon as possible. Payment shall be in the form of a cheque from the school only.
