Jeff Laping, of the Provincial “AAAA” basketball champion St. Paul’s Crusaders has been selected as the February SUBWAY Urban Coach of the Month. Laping’s Crusaders captured their first ever Provincial title with a hard fought win over Glenalwn at the recent Milk “AAAA” championship. Jeff has been coaching for 23 years, 14 as the Varsity boys coach at St. Paul’s. They reached the championship final in 2010. Jeff also serves as an assistant coach for the U of M Bisons, and has been a Provincial team coach. He has also served as a past President of Manitoba Basketball coaches association. He also coaches the high school golf team.
Chris Unrau of the Boissevain Broncos basketball team has been selected as SUBWAY Rural Coach of the Month. This is his 4th year of coaching varsity boys basketball. Through the past 4 seasons, Chris, a community volunteer, has developed an outstanding team. This year, the Broncos have been ranked very highly all year, with three first place finishes at tournaments, as well as a couple of runner ups. In the Provincial “A” championships held recently in Warren, they took the silver medal, after a hard fought championship game against Carman.
