C.P. Allen, Central Kings win NSSAF boys’ hockey titles

Ben Bryant’s goal in the third period lifted the C.P. Allen Cheetahs to a 3-2 win over the Riverview Redmen to repeat as NSSAF Division 1 boys’ hockey champions on Sunday in Westville.
Luke MacLean and Matt Burden also scored for the Cheetahs.
Chase Sampson and Nathaniel Fuller replied for Riverview.
The Cheetahs opened the scoring just over a minute and half into the game on a goal by MacLean. Burden’s short-handed effort made it 2-0.  The Cheetahs ran into penalty trouble and the Redmen capitalized twice to tie the game.  
 Bryant scored the winner after a scramble in front of the Redmen net.  
Riverview advanced to the final after defeating  Glace Bay 4-2 while C.P. Allen blanked Auburn   2-0.

Division 2
Will Churchill broke a 3-3 tie with a pair of goals forty-two seconds apart late in the third period to lift the Central Kings Gators to a 6-3 win over the Sackville Kingfishers in the championship game in Musquodoboit Harbour on Sunday.
Ryan Miller, Cameron Crooks, Keegan Cook and Jarrett Phinney also scored for the Gators, who won the NSSAF title for the second time in three years.
Central Kings won four games straight games after losing their opener in the tournament.
“I can’t put into words how good this feels right now,” said Churchill, a Grade 12 forward from Cambridge.   “It didn’t look good after our first game but we just kept working hard and here we are with the provincial banner.”
Josh Jackman, with two, and Cole Elliott scored for the Kingfishers.
Sackville advanced to the final with a 3-0 win over Clare while Central Kings beat Hants East 5-4, in a shootout after double overtime.
