NSSAF COVID UPDATE – AUGUST 24, 2020
In preparation for the 2020-2021 season, the NSSAF is announcing that activities may begin on Monday September 14, 2020. The start date for many fall sports has been pushed back one week to allow schools to adjust to the new protocols for the resumption of classes prior to engaging in school sport activities.
The NSSAF will continue to monitor any changes in the Provincial Guidelines and will make updates to the status of sports and will contact member schools with any changes to competition schedules.
As of August 24, 2020 the status of sports with start dates from September 14 through December 1 are as follows:
Baseball (Start Date Sept 14) – Full Competition/Practice
Golf (Start Date Sept 14) – Full Competition/Practice
Volleyball (Start Date Sept 14) – Modified Competition/Practice
Cross Country (Start Date Sept 14) – Modified Competition/Practice (Maximum group of 10 non distance, Total number participants 50)
Football (Start Date Sept 14) – Modified Practice (Maximum groups of 10)
Soccer (Start Date Sept 14) – Modified Practice (Maximum groups of 10)
Hockey (Start Date Sept 18) – Modified Practice (Maximum groups of 10)
Basketball (Start Date Oct 16) – Modified Practice (Maximum groups of 10)
Wrestling (Start Date Oct 23) – Modified Practice (Maximum groups of 10)
Cheerleading (Start Date Nov 2) – Modified Practice (Maximum groups of 10)
The NSSAF has made some changes for the 2020-2021 year to address health concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic. These changes include:
- For the 2020-2021 season, the calendar will be amended for first day of NSSAF activity to September 14, 2020
- For the 2020-2021 school year, the NSSAF will not sanction any interprovincial/international tournament play.
- For the 2020-2021 school year, NSSAF members not host tournaments.
- For the 2020-2021 school year, the NSSAF alter hosting rotation where necessary to accommodate the least amount of travel for participating teams.
