PEISAA intermediate A basketball finals set

Medal games scheduled for Summerside Intermediate on Saturday February 25, 2017

SUMMERSIDE – The P.E.I. School Athletic Association intermediate A basketball champions will be crowned on Saturday.

Four semifinals were played at host Summerside Intermediate School (SIS) on Friday, setting the stage for the bronze- and gold-medal games.
The girls’ final will feature the SIS Blue team taking on Birchwood, and the boys’ gold-medal matchup features an all-Charlottetown clash between Stonepark and Birchwood.
The championship games, which are scheduled for 2:30 and 4:15 p.m., will follow the bronze-medal matches at 11 a.m., and 12:45 p.m.

Semifinals
In the opening girls’ semifinal, Megan Moase scored 15 points to lead SIS Blue past Morell 42-35. Kaylee Stewart netted a game-high 18 points for Morell.
The other semifinal featured a nail-biter between SIS White and Birchwood. When the final buzzer sounded, Birchwood prevailed 36-34. Top scorers were Birchwood’s Urmila Khanal (point total unavailable, and SIS White’s Sydney Gallant (12).

The first boys’ semifinal between Stonepark and Miscouche also came right down to the wire as the Charlottetown school pulled out a two-point victory – 37-35. Ethan Sprague (11) was the leading point-getter for Stonepark, and Shawn Aitken had 12 points for Miscouche.
Birchwood, led by Andrew Carmichael’s 10-point effort, topped Summerside Intermediate 36-24 in the second boys’ semifinal. Dylan Thomas led the host Owls with 12 points.

CHARLOTTETOWN – The gold-medal matchups are set for the P.E.I. School Athletic Association intermediate AA basketball championships on Saturday.

The boys’ final will feature an all-Summerside clash between the Summerside Intermediate School (SIS) Owls and Athena Hawks. In Friday’s semifinals, the Owls pulled out a hard-fought 61-56 victory over the Queen Charlotte Coyotes, and Athena registered a 58-39 decision over East Wiltshire.
In girls’ play, two Charlottetown teams – Stonepark Tigers and Queen Charlotte – will clash for the provincial title. Stonepark won its semifinal game 50-34 over Athena, and Queen Charlotte was victorious 53-37 over Hernewood.
All games are being played at Queen Charlotte Intermediate School in Charlottetown.
