STONEPARK WIN INTERMEDIATE AA BASKETBALL GOLD!

Following is the recap of games at the PEISAA 2019 Intermediate AA Girls Basketball Championships played at Stonepark on February 22 & 23:
Girls Semi-final #1 Stonepark vs East Wiltshire
The first semi-final of the day saw #1 seed Stonepark defeat East Wiltshire Worriors 58-20. Both team had a slow start with Stonepark ahead after the first quarter 7-6. Katie Vidito put the Tigers out front at the half with 11 of the teams 23 points. The Tigers led 23-12 at the half. Stonepark kept the lead for the entire game. Katie Vidito led the Tigers with 14 while Dara Mccabe added 12. Keera Vos led the Warriors with 10.
Girls Semi #2 Summerside Intermediate vs Birchwood
Summerside Intermediate led in the first quarter and didn’t look back as they defeated Birchwood 49-18. SIS’s Reghan Betts led all scorers with 19 points and Paige MacLean scored 16. Nelly Johnston led Birchwood scorers with 5. The score was 29-6 at the half.
Girls Bronze
The East Wiltshire Warriors girls captured the bronze medal at the PEISAA championships on Saturday by defeating Birchwood Cobras in a tight game 31-30. The game was tied 16-16 at half time. Emily Thistle hit two foul shots that proved to be the game winner. Birchwood’s Isabelle McGeoghan scored a 3 pointer with 11 seconds to go and then drained two free throws but the Cobras’ efforts fell short as EWS protected the lead to the buzzer.
Girls Gold
Stonepark Tigers took a comfortable 16-6 lead in the first quarter and never looked back as they defeated Summerside Intermediate 59-35 in the gold medal PEISAA final. Sydney Lawlor led the Tigers with 18 points while Dara McCabe added 12 and Ava Sinnott with 10. Stonepark had its largest lead at the end of the third quarter outscoring SIS 53-26.
Stonepark’s patience on offence and smothering defence earned them the #1 seed spot heading into the provincials. Paige MacLean was top scorer for Summerside with 17 and Alyssa Richard added 7.

The PEISAA 2019 Boys Intermediate “AA” Basketball Championships took place at Stonepark February 22 & 23. Below is a recdap of all the results:
Boys semi-final #1 Stonepark vs Athena
In the first boys semi-final, #2 seed in the West Athena Hawks defeated the East #1 seed in a close contest 53-51. Athena jumped out early and held a 15-13 lead going into the second quarter. They held their lead at half 37-29. Stonepark battled back to within 2 points after the third and after several lead changes. Athena was down 4 with 2 minutes remaining but key baskets by Arman Singh and Ben Murphy sealed the victory. Singh led Athena with 23 and Ben Murphy added 14. Kallon MacDonald-Wood led Stonepark with 23 while Kallen Power and Owen Headley added 7.
Boys Semi-final #2 Queen Charlotte vs Summerside
Queen Charlotte jumped out to a comfortable 13-0 lead to start the game only to watch SIS storm back and trail by one 24-23 at half. SIS took their first lead of the game at 25-24 and outscored QC by 9 points in the third quarter. The fourth quarter was all SIS outscoring QC 21-8 to win going away 60-39. Top scorers for SIS were Ryan MacKinnon with 28 points and Nathan Enman with 12 points. QC was led by Jordan Ellsworth with 10 points and Noah Killorn with 8 points.
Boys Bronze
Stonepark Intermediate boys capped their year off with a bronze medal win at the provincial championships at Stonepark. The Tigers defeated Queen Charlotte 54-49. Kalon MacDonald-Wood led all scorers with a 29 point performance and Kallen Power added 10 in the win. Nate Whitnell and Noah Killorn each hit a three in the final minutes to put the game within reach. Mac-Donald-Wood iced key foul shots to hang on to the lead. Zach Sefau led Queen Charlotte with 12 in the loss.
Boys Gold
The final game of the day was an all West final as Summerside Intermediate took on the Athena Hawks. It was a close game with Summerside jumping out to the early lead in the first quarter 17-12. They took a one point lead into the half and never looked back. Summerside held off a fierce Athena squad to win the game 51-46. Tournament MVP Ryan macKinnon led all scorers with 19 while Nathan Inman had 10. Athena was led by Zachary Blood 16 and Armaan Singh 15.
