Province Proclaims School Sport Week

The Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association (SHSAA) is proud to announce that the Ministry of Education has proclaimed October 10 – 16, 2010 as School Sport Week in Saskatchewan.

The attached information includes the history of School Sport Week and the valuable messages that are promoted with the schools. The information has been sent to each school in the province and posted on our website www.shsaa.ca.

Wednesday, October 13 will be promoted as Officials Recognition Day. Friday October 15 will be promoted as School Team Recognition Day. Schools have been asked to post their activities for the week on the SHSAA message board. The SHSAA will end the celebration with the Provincial Cross Country Championships in Regina on October 16, 2010. SHSAA Executive Director Kevin Vollet and SHSAA President Angela Tillier will be on hand to address the 600 participants expected at this year’s championship.

It is our hope that your media outlet will take an opportunity to highlight School Sport leading up to and during this proclaimed week to help the people of Saskatchewan consider the many benefits accrued by our student athletes, schools, and communities through involvement in the SHSAA and School Sport.
