Auburn Drive, Northeast Kings and Springhill capture girls’ basketball banners

Division 1

Keezaidra Smith scored 15 points and Courteya Olivier-Fraser 14 as the Auburn Drive Eagles defeated the Halifax West Warriors 60-50 to capture the provincial Division 1 girls’ banner on Sunday in New Glasgow.

Olivia Logan netted 18 and Ally McLean 11 for the Warriors.

Ali Oluyole scored 18 and Lily Walsh and Vanessa Penny 16 each as Horton edged Armbrae 63-62 for the bronze medal.

Emily Nunu-Sabean had 16 and Sasha Dabb 13 for Armbrae.

Division 2

Kalia Smith scored 32 points and Grace Walton added 27 as Northeast Kings Education Centre downed West Kings 84-49 in the championship game in Canning on Monday.

Margo MacLeod added 12 in the win. Chloe Palmer scored 17 and Jessica Ramsey 12 for West Kings.

In the bronze medal game, Molly Sancton scored 26 points and Abby Sancton 20 as Sacred Heart edged Amherst 72-69. Pia Lacuesta added 14 in the win. Maddison Weir scored 19, Olivia Bacon 18 and Hailey Johnson 15 for Amherst.

Division 3

Faith Atkinson poured in 26 points as host Springhill downed Oxford 66-52 to win the provincial banner. Jorja Spicer and Lynsey Gallagher each added 11 points for Shelburne, while Desitre Chetfield had 15 points for Oxford.

In the bronze medal game, Halle Williams scored 20 points as Shelburne defeated Pugwash 54-43. Chloe Goucher added 15 points in the win.

Ming Sanderson scored 15 and Jamee Rushton and Marina Allen 13 each for Pugwash.

Division 2

In the bronze medal contest, Etienne Pahlke and Marduche Kabengere each scored 21 points as Sommet downed Forest Heights 81-69. Kennan MacDonald added 20 and Jacob Breenann 13 for Sommet. Ayden Allan had 25 and Matthew Morrow 19 for Forest Heights.

The gold medal game was played later on Monday.

HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: C.P. Allen tops Citadel to defend Division 1 boys’ championship

Micah Anderson scored 25 points as the C.P. Allen Cheetahs defeated the Citadel Phoenix 87-81 to capture their second straight School Sport Nova Scotia Division 1 boys’ basketball championship on Sunday in Sydney.

Jude Cameron added 18 and Andrew Lawlor 16 for the Cheetahs. Kaymmon Grouse scored 26 points to lead Citadel while Ethan Howes had 17 and Robbie Grant 12.

The Cheetahs avenged a 78-76 loss to the Phoenix in the Capital Region championship game two weeks ago.

In the bronze medal game, Jayden Lucas netted 21 points and Ben Dale 19 as the Millwood Knights edged the Horton Griffins 81-78. Ewan Wilson scored 25 for Horton.

In semifinal action, Cameron went off for 37 points as C.P. Allen dropped the Millwood Knights 96-73 while Grouse scored 29 to lead Citadel past Halifax Grammar School 96-86.

Division 3

Dillon Miller pumped 42 points as Hants North Rural defeated Springhill 99-61 to capture the provincial banner. Mitch McBurnie led Springhill with 14 points.

In the bronze medal game, Tanner Thompson scored 20 points to lead Lockeport Regional past Shelburne 81-72. Ethan Stewart had 25 for Shelburne.

Results from the other divisions were not reported by deadline.
