HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY: Citadel Phoenix win provincial championship in OT

COXHEATH — The Citadel Phoenix of Halifax defeated the Charles P. Allen Cheetahs 2-1 on overtime to win the School Sport Nova Scotia Division 1 boys’ provincial championship at the Cape Breton County Recreation Centre in Coxheath on Sunday.
Finn Merritt with the game-winner and Ben Bishop scored for the Phoenix while Angus Berry had the lone Cheetahs tally.
Leaf Korthals earned the win in nets for the Phoenix while Ben MacDonald shouldered the loss.
The host Riverview Ravens went winless in the eight-team tournament with a 0-3 record while the only other Cape Breton team, the Glace Bay Panthers were 1-2.
These are the results from Saturday’s action:

• CEC Cougars 4, Glace Bay Panthers 1
• Northumberland Nighthawks 6, Riverview Ravens 3
• Citadel Phoenix 4, Lockview Dragons 1
Citadel, Par-en-Bas claim School Sport Nova Scotia boys’ hockey titles
Finn Merritt scored in overtime as the Citadel Phoenix edged the C.P. Allen Cheetahs 2-1 to capture the School Sport Nova Scotia Division 1 boys’ hockey championship on Sunday in Coxheath.
Ben Bishop also scored for the Phoenix while goalie Leaf Korthals stopped 25 shots for the win.
Angus Berry opened the scoring for the Cheetahs in the first period.
Division 2
Dominic Jacquard scored two goals and added an assist as the Par-en-Bas Sharks defeated the West Kings Wolverines 3-1 to defend their Disivion 2 provincial title in Yarmouth on Sunday.
Ben Lyons also scored for the Sharks while Zander White made 21 saves. Owen Fowler replied for the Wolverines.
