– Inaugural “Community Give-Back Challenge” Aims to Get Canadians Involved in Sports Day in Canada –
Ottawa, Ontario – Olympic Gold Medalist Maëlle Ricker and True Sport have teamed up to challenge all True Sport members to unleash the power of sport by participating in the True Sport Community Give-Back Challenge in celebration of Sports Day in Canada September 18, 2010.
True Sport members will be showing their community spirit on Sports Day in Canada by taking part in any activity that gives back to their communities. Members can gather their teams to clean up a local park, volunteer in a community centre or even organize a community fair and donate the proceeds to a local charity or cause. The idea is simple: good sport can make a great difference in communities across Canada.
“Sport changed my life and I’m happy to give back something to the country that has given me so much opportunity,” said Maëlle. “I know that the True Sport Community Give-Back Challenge has the power to change people’s lives in communities across our country. I challenge Canadians to reach beyond the field of play and use the values that sport has given them to make a difference in their community.”
Cash prizes ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 will be awarded to the top finalists.
Register to participate in the True Sport Community Give-Back Challenge by September 17, 2010 by completing the online form at www.truesport.ca/giveback. Participants will be asked to submit videos, photographs and/or stories depicting what they did to make a difference in their community.
