BARRINGTON, N.S. – The Barrington Barons captured the NSSAF Division 3 Senior Girls Slo-pitch provincial championship on June 1 and 2, posting a 4-1 record to win the banner.
Eight teams competed in the two-division tournament, hosted by Forest Heights at the Hubbard Recreation Complex in Queensland. The Barons opened the tourney with a 10-8 win over Dalbrae. In game two, Barrington doubled the Cape Breton Highlands 12-6. East Antigonish handed the Barons an 11-9 loss in game three.
In semi-final action the Barons edged the defending provincial champions, Richmond, 11-10, going on to defeat Middleton in the championship game 17-7 in five innings for the title. The Barons also defeated Middleton for the Western Region slo-pitch title.
The Amherst Vikings downed the Halifax West Warriors 17-3 to capture the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation Division 1 boys’ slo-pitch title on Monday in Brookfield. The Vikings advancd to the final by edging Glace Bay 23-22 while the Warriors downed South Colchester Academy 21-14.
Poor field conditions on the weekend pushed the tournament’s playoff games into Monday.
SOFTBALL
The NSSAF Division 1 boys’ softball championship will be decided Monday in Brookfield.
Following Saturday’s rain, fields and diamonds were deemed unplayable on Sunday, pushing one more round-robin game, the semifinals and the championship final to Monday.
South Colchester Academy, unbeaten at 3-0, will face Halifax West in one semifinal. Glace Bay, the other team with a 3-0 mark, will play in the other semi.
The Panthers will face the winner of the last round-robin game between Amherst and Central Kings.
