COXHEATH, N.S. — The Glace Bay Panthers pounced on the provincial cheerleading title on Saturday.

The Panthers took top spot in the Level 4 division at the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation Cheerleading Championships held at Riverview gym in Coxheath. It’s the first provincial banner for the Panthers since they won back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013.

The host Riverview Redettes finished in second place, while the Avon View Avalanche of Windsor, N.S., took third. Riverview had won the provincial championship back-to-back in 2015 and 2016.

In the Level 2 division, the Dartmouth Spartans won gold, while the Yarmouth Vikings took silver and the Liverpool Warriors claimed bronze.

The difference between the two levels is the difficulty of the stunts the teams can perform. The Level 4 teams are able to do more difficult stunts than those competing in Level 2.
