West capture third straight NSSAF girls’ soccer banner

The Halifax West Warriors are provincial champs in girls’ soccer for a third straight year.

Audrey McIntosh scored the lone goal of the match in the 71st minute to lift the Warriors to a 1-0 victory over the Citadel Phoenix in the gold medal game of the NSSAF championship Saturday afternoon at Mainland Common.

It’s the third consecutive and sixth out of seven NSSAF banners in girls’ soccer for Halifax West.

 Grace Morrison had the shutout for the Warriors, who ran the table over the course of the season, winning 15 in a row.

In the NSSAF girls’ soccer bronze medal match at Mainland Common, Sophie Sheppard tallied twice as the Cobequid Cougars edged the Dr. J.H. Gillis Royals 2-1.

Maura Flynn answered for Gillis.


Huskies capture boys and girls Division 3 soccer provincial titles

TERRE NOIRE – Cape Breton Highlands Education Centre/Academy can add two championship banners to its collection.
The school captured both the boys and girls Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation Division 3 soccer championships on the weekend.
In the boys’ division in Eastern Passage, the Huskies blanked the Island View Devils 2-0 in the championship game on Saturday.
Ben Carmichael and Landon MacIntosh scored goals for Cape Breton Highlands.
The Huskies advanced to the finals with a 3-0 win over Pugwash District High School.
In the girls’ division in Margaree Harbour, Cape Breton Highlands claimed the provincial title with a 3-0 win over Oxford Regional High School on Saturday.
Mackenzie Roach, Aca Ross and Olivia Hart netted goals for the Huskies, while Hannah MacIntosh had the shutout.
Cape Breton Highlands advanced to the finals with a 2-1 overtime win over Sacred Heart School on Friday.


BEC Bears girls capture Division 2 provincial title; boys team takes home silver medal

NEW WATERFORD, N.S. – The Breton Education Centre Bears Division 2 girls soccer team captured its second straight Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation provincial title on Monday.
Sophie Curtis scored the game’s lone goal in the 75th-minute to lead the Bears to a 1-0 win over the host Northeast Kings Education Centre.
In round robin action on Sunday, the Bears blanked New Germany Rural High School 5-0 to advance to the championship game.
Emma Gale led the way for BEC with three goals, while Abby MacNeil and Caileigh MacPherson added single markers.
In Division 2 boys’ provincial action in New Waterford on Saturday, the Breton Education Centre Bears were edged 2-1 by Ecole du Carrefour in the championship game.
Elias Mourad and Woody Bain netted goals for Carrefour.  Waylon Petrie had the lone goal for Breton Education Centre.
In round robin action on Friday, BEC shut out Middleton Regional High School 2-0 to advance to the championship game.
Paul Wolff and Conor Chiasson had goals for the Bears in the contest.
