Sometimes the most powerful moments in sport happen after the final whistle.
At this year’s Senior Cager, NT School Sports recognized another special moment of character and compassion with the Fair Play Pin.
Following the championship game, emotions were running high. One of the players from École Sir John Franklin High School had recently transferred schools and would have been part of the St. Patrick High School team earlier in the year. After the game ended, the Sir John player was overwhelmed and upset about the result.
Without hesitation, Jabrielle Lim from St. Patrick High School walked over to him and wrapped him in a big hug.
What followed was a moment that reminded everyone what school sport is truly about. Jabrielle told him how well he had played and reminded him that he had been part of the journey as well, having practiced with the team for many weeks earlier in the season. He spoke with kindness, encouragement, and respect.
Later, the two players even posed together for a jersey swap photo, showing that competition may divide teams for a game, but friendship and respect bring people back together.
For this act of empathy and leadership, Jabrielle Lim was awarded the NT School Sports Fair Play Pin.
His coach shared that Jabrielle consistently shows compassion for teammates and opponents alike, playing with both passion and care for the people around him.
Moments like this remind us why school sport matters.
The Fair Play Pin celebrates these genuine actions of respect, kindness, and leadership. They may not appear on the scoreboard, but they represent the true spirit of sport in the North.
Congratulations Jabrielle, and thank you for reminding us all what fair play looks like.
