LEWISPORTE, NL – The Lewisporte Lynx Senior Boys basketball team capped off a successful season by winning the 3A Boys Provincial Basketball Championship in Gander on March 22-24.

After coming third at the regional tournament behind Grand Falls-Windsor and Gander, the Lynx were granted a wildcard berth in the eight-team provincial tournament. They defeated EVH in their first game by a score of 74-67.

Leading scorers for Lewisporte were Ian Wellon with 24 points, including 6 3-point shots, and Phillip Pardy with 19 and Jordan Watkins with nine.

The second game saw the Lynx defeat Elwood Collegiate of Deer Lake, 60-40. Lewisporte scoring was led by Pardy with 16 points, Wellon with 15 and Dante Mills with 10.
The last round-robin game saw the Lynx defeat St. Kevins 68-65. Once again Ian Wellon led scorers with 26 points, with Philip Pardy chipping in with 14.
After finishing first in their division, the Lynx played Templeton Academy in the semifinal. Leading the Lynx in the 59-47 win was Pardy with 21 points, Wellon with 18 and Watkins with nine.
The final match was between two central Newfoundland teams as Lewisporte faced Gander Collegiate. The Lynx gained an early advantage, leading 38-23 at the half. However, with the Lynx having some key players in foul trouble, Gander clawed their way back and trailed by 1 in the 4th quarter.
Good defence and great foul shooting ensured that the Lynx prevailed, by a score of 78-67. The Lynx were led by Pardy with 37 points. Wellon scored 21 and Nolan Humphries added an important six points off the bench.
