2026 Ben Sheardown Award for Coaching Excellence
Congratulations to Patrick Pearson, recipient of the 2026 Ben Sheardown Award for Coaching Excellence!
Since joining J.V. Clark School in Mayo in 2022, Patrick has transformed the school’s athletics program, expanding opportunities for students to compete, learn and grow through sport. What was once a program with few opportunities for travel now sees students participating in numerous tournaments and events throughout the year, thanks to Patrick’s dedication as a coach, mentor, driver, organizer and champion for student success.
Patrick’s commitment extends far beyond game day. He dedicates countless hours to planning practices that build skills, confidence and teamwork, ensuring every student-athlete has the opportunity to develop and succeed. Whether coaching volleyball, basketball, badminton, cross-country running or track and field, Patrick creates positive experiences that inspire students to challenge themselves and support one another.
As both a teacher and coach, Patrick is known for his unwavering commitment to students. He works tirelessly to make physical activity and sport accessible, engaging and rewarding for learners of all ages and abilities. His impact can be seen not only in the growth of J.V. Clark’s sports program but also in the confidence, resilience and school spirit he helps foster every day.
This award is named in honour of Yukon coaching legend Ben Sheardown and it recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership, sportsmanship and dedication to youth through school sport. Patrick exemplifies these qualities and more, and is a deserving recipient of this year’s award!
